In het oude Egypte werd het als ter verzorging en bescherming van de huid gebruikt \u00a0en in heel Azi\u00eb en in de Traditionele Chinese geneeskunde staat het bekend als middel ter verzachting van de eerste ouderdomsverschijnselen. Parelpoeder maakt de huid zachter, ze wordt soepeler en elastischer doordat de celregeneratie wordt versneld en het resultaat is een frisser en jeugdiger aanzien. Daarnaast werkt het verkoelend en balancerend op de huid.
